Social Networking

1. Customized Workshops

At ShinyDoor we provide social networking workshops targeted to the needs of the students.  Discussions with the client/sponsor are conducted prior to the workshop to ensure the content and pace meet the needs of the students. Workshops are in-person or via webinar. More info about ShinyDoor Workshops.

2. Guidance

Via in person meeting, the phone or a webinar, ShinyDoor assists solopreneurs, small business owners, nonprofits, and governmental agencies with:

  • Understanding why social networking can be a valuable tool,
  • Defining exactly how to use social networks to meet their goals,
  • Determining which staff needs social media education, and
  • Creating a strategy for organization-wide use.
  • Creating a social media policy.

3. Presentations

Interested in having your members, clients, staff, volunteers begin to think about social networking? ShinyDoor presentations are a mix of discussion facilitation and informational session. We customize the discussion around the goals, interests and social networking challenges of the attendees.

4. Event Facilitation

We at ShinyDoor love creative learning experiences, which happen to often be informal learning experiences. With social media we involve folks who are not physically at the event, utilizing low or no cost tools and props. Our job - increase the impact of your event.

We hold these truths to be self-evident:

  • When we participate in a learning experience, we are more likely to figure out how to use the new information and relate it to our own situation than when we simply listen.
  • Humor during an event not only helps us to retain information but also results in us wanting to return to that event.
  • Attendees are ok with experimentation at an event when that experimentation is transparent and a learning experience for all.

Digital Equality

1. Grant Writing

We believe understanding how to use technology and using relevant technology can immenselfy impact a person's quality of life. To this end, we choose to help write grant proposals that fund community technology programs for the underserved. We have worked collaboratively on two successful federal grant proposals.

2. Program Development

Angela's experience with community technology is helpful both with the grant writing and the digital equality program development. We are currently working with OneCommunity and their lead community agency partners on the federally funded project Connect Your Community.

3. Curriculum Development

This item could just as easily been located under Social Networking. We have created curriculum focused on social networking and more general curriculum for new technology users.
