Below is an example of a Twitter 201 workshop agenda created for a government agency. The class was taught to management and staff. Keep in mind, all classes are customized according to the needs and interests of the client.
Twitter Accounts and Users
Management:
- List current organization Twitter accounts and owners.
- Usernames should be consistent with program branding. Easy to change usernames.
- Anyone on staff who would be interested in tweeting but not for a specific program? @organization_staffname
- Options for multiple staff tweeting per program.
1. All tweet under one account. Sign each tweet.
2. Each user has a unique account with similar names:
@ProgramName_StaffName
- List staff with personal Twitter accounts.
- Review Twitter bios:
Short statement about the Twitter account. Include who is tweeting if space allows.
Staff
- Different uses of personal accounts and professional accounts.
• Personal account does not mean others do not know where you work.
• Professional does not mean boring.
Tweeting
Management / Staff
- Set Twitter goals:
• Increase outreach.
• Build the Organization list.
• Recruit volunteers.
• Recruit program/event participants.
- Best practices:
• Engage
• Integrate into offline events
• Focus on the issue, not just the program.
Staff
- Deciding upon and understanding the mix of personal and professional.

- Retweeting
• RT others not connected with your organzation. Good way to make friends.
• RT other organization accounts but not so often that the content is repetitive.
Following and Followers
Staff
- Expand number of followers by expanding number of those you follow. Many you follow will follow you back.
- Choosing whom to follow:
• Keyword searches.
• Users who mention your organzation or your username.
• Users referenced in tweets by those you follow.
Co-Tweet
Management
- Multiple accounts.
- Multiple users per account.
Staff
- Co-Tags
- Assigning tweets.
- Scheduling tweets.
- Posting to multiple accounts at one time:
Monitor organization and program mentions via keyword searches,
including “YourCompany”.
Retweeting
• RT others not connected with your company. Good way to make friends.
• RT other "your organzation" accounts but not so often that the content is repetitive.
Hashtags
Management / Staff
- Recommend using #yourorganization for all of your organizations events.
- Monitor the hashtag closely prior, during, and after events in order to respond when appropriately.
